Programme Recovery and Delivery
Client
The Cheque & Credit Clearing Company is a non-profit making industry body funded by its members. It has managed the cheque clearing system in England and Wales since 1985 and in Scotland since 1996.
Challenge
In 2015 legislation was introduced allowing cheques to be imaged, replacing the old paper system with the aim to cut down cheque clearing times from six days to one day.
The legislation required the Cheque & Credit Clearing Company and all member banks and clearing houses to amend their clearing processes and introduce new technology that would support cheque imaging, changing the way a payment scheme had been operating for hundreds of years.
Solution
Airwalk Reply was recommended to support a programme that was failing; running over budget, over time and not delivering on the promised industry changes.
Airwalk Reply assessed the status of the programme and mobilised a full team of specialists that took over the running of the programme, revising the governance, planning and execution approach.
As well as the central migration of cheques, Airwalk Reply also supported member migrations and provided valuable contributions to HM Treasury and the tripartite regulatory system allowing cohesion to support the overall programme.
Outcome
We successfully onboarded new technology suppliers, and swiftly exited the previous supplier. All members successfully migrated to the new clearing system with central implementations completed within government timescales.
