Cloud-Native Architecture of a chatbot for WhatsApp

Client

A Hong Kong-based banking and financial services company. One of Hong Kong’s leading public companies in terms of market capitalisation whose major business activities include retail banking, wealth management, commercial banking, treasury services, and private banking.

Challenge

The customer planned to launch a new chat feature for WhatsApp users to get the latest information about their services from its retail virtual assistant. The integration required
a containerised application to be deployed securely with ‘always-on’ resiliency, in compliance with the organisation’s internal governance and within a tight schedule.

Solution

Airwalk Reply architected the containers with a cloud-native and serverless approach using AWS, ECS and Fargate to ensure automated service recovery, and we fast-tracked the deployments from development to production environments using Infrastructure as Code as well as DevOps pipelines.

Outcome

The chatbot for WhatsApp has successfully gone live with a highly resilient architecture supporting RTO in seconds. The overall process from development, deployment, internal/cybersecurity reviews to eventual launch was completed within four months and on schedule.
